How to Buy an LED Video Wall: A 7-Step Guide

Buying an LED wall isn't like buying a TV — there's no single "size." It's a system spec'd to your space, your audience, and your content. Here's the seven-step path, in the order that keeps you from over- or under-buying.

1. Measure the space

Get real width and height for where the wall lives. LED is modular — it's built from cabinets (commonly 500×500 mm), so your wall snaps to a grid. Note any ceiling, rigging, or wall-mount constraints now.

2. Nail the viewing distance

Where's the closest viewer? That single number drives your pixel pitch, which drives most of the cost. Spec to the nearest person, not the average.

3. Indoor or outdoor?

Outdoor walls need high brightness (5,000–10,000+ nits) and weatherproof IP-rated cabinets. Indoor walls prioritize fine pitch and lower brightness. This decision rules entire product lines in or out.

4. Set the brightness

Brightness is measured in nits. A dim boardroom needs ~600–800; a sunlit storefront needs 5,000+. Too dim outdoors and it washes out; too bright indoors and it's a headache. Match nits to ambient light.

5. Plan resolution & content

Your cabinet count and pitch set the total resolution (pixels wide × tall). Make sure your content and media server can actually drive it — and budget for a processor and, often, custom content.

6. Budget the whole system

Panels are the headline number, but a working wall also needs processing, rigging or mounting, cabling, spares, and installation. See our cost guide for how it all adds up.

7. Choose a partner, not just a price

The cheapest quote means nothing if the gear gets orphaned. Buy from a US company with local warranty, spares, and a real support line. When a module needs attention two years in, you want someone who picks up.

Skip the math. Our LED Wall Calculator turns your dimensions and viewing distance into a recommended pitch, panel count, resolution, power, and a ballpark investment — in about 60 seconds.
